Yngling Women Europeans 2007
Warnemunde, Germany
23 September 2007
After the first three races Anna BASALKINA, Vladislava UKRAINTSEVA and Ekaterina MAXIMOVA (RUS) is at the lead performing consistent sailing with a series of 2-4-6. The weather of the first day of racing was light with the wind coming from shore with shifty and puffy conditions as the result.
Also Janneke HIN, Annemeike BES and Floortje HENDRIKSEN (NED) have showed good shape in the tricky conditions with a 11-1-2 putting them 2 points behind the leader. In the second race of the day HIN and her crew played the shifts close to perfection with a several minute lead over the second boat to finish.
Also showing that they belong in the top battle for this Championship is Siren SUNDBY, Lise Birgitte FREDRIKSEN and Alexandra KOFOED (NOR) in third place 3 points behind the leaders. 10 races and a Medal Race is scheduled. The boats not qualified for the Concluding Medal Race on Friday will sail an 11th race just before the Medal Race.
The above results are preliminary as the jury has received protests.
A total of 21 boats from 13 nations are participating in this Championship. Several countries are using this Regatta as part of their national selections for the Olympics and much is at stake for many teams. There are still four nation qualification places for the 2008 Olympics and they are to be decided in next years World Championship in Miami, USA. It is worth to note that some of the top teams in the Europeans, Norway and Greece have still not qualified their nation.
