and sailors have been requested and submitted

SUBMISSION FROM THE INTERNATIONAL YNGLING ASSOCIATION

Title: Olympic Equipment for 2012

Subtitle: Equipment for the Women Keelboat (matchracing)Event at the 2012 Olympic Games

Proposal: That the Yngling  will be the equipment for the Women Keelboat match racing Event at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Current position: The Yngling is currently the Olympic Equipment for the Women Keelboat Event.

Reason:

*World Wide spread

Being an ISAF class since 1979 and an Olympic Class since 2001, the Yngling is well known, well established and spread throughout the world. The latest Yngling World Championships have attracted sailors from all continents Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, North America and South America.

*World Wide availability.

There are currently 6 licensed Yngling builders on three continents. ISAF is the licensing authority and oversees the construction and class rules; this gives you stability and high quality.

*Good Match Racer

The Yngling has proved to be very speed equal and very tactical. The limited turning radius and overhanging transom give you classical match racing with locking and controlling/attacking your opponent.

*Media friendly

The limited and equal upwind/downwind speed makes races easy to follow and do commentary on and Yngling Medal races has been recognised as one the best and for the public most interesting to follow via media.

*Affordable purchase

The Yngling is a small boat and very affordable compared with larger boats. Furthermore, extremely durable design and construction ensure a long competitive life and value. Many independent builders’ guaranties that there will be a healthy market competition.

*Affordable logistics

A three person crew keep the costs down for competitors, event organisers and national teams. Easy transportation opens the possibility for several event organisers to share equipment. The boat can be transported by a small car on trailer or two boats fit (on their trailer) comfortably together in a 40ft container.

*More nations

The number of participants is limited at the Olympics and other events. A three person boat would limit the number of participants and still allow many nations.

*Strong Class

A strong International Class Association will assist in any event organisers wanting to use the Yngling for regattas without purchasing them.

*Safe and durable

The Yngling construction is solid and durable. Breakdowns are very unusual, even during high-level racing. The boat meets tough safety standards and is unsinkable. Due to the proven long lifetime there will be a continuing market for used boats

*Ready for Match Race development

Discussions are underway if drop hiking should be banned during match race pre start or entire race, however the Yngling is nearly equally well sailed with or without drop hiking and therefore the safe and sound choice as the equipment for Olympic Women Match Race.

*Youth Sailing

The Yngling is well known as a good boat for youth sailing on both national and international level the Yngling organisations continuously focus on youth sailing with proven positive results.
